Peter Chinn's Moves to Vandyland

Nashville Restaurants and Food
Peter Chinn's Moves to Vandyland

Wow, talk about a fast change. We had a reader report today that Peter Chinn's Korean Barbecue Taco has closed on Clarksville Highway and moved to 400 21st Avenue South in the old Cheeseburger Charley's location. We just called and they confirm it. This happened so fast that they are already serving up those kimchi and kogi beef short rib tacos in the new location. The owners report that they had a strong lunch business this afternoon. The location on Clarksville Highway seemed like an issue from the beginning. The best news about the new building is that they have sit down seating.

Here's a link to the old location if you haven't tried them out yet:

They are one of the bright spots in the Nashville dining scene this year. We'll swing by and take a look this weekend. Meanwhile, if you get there before us let us know what you think.

Holy Crap this is great news! I mean, I did go many times to Peter Chinn's at the other location, but never again by myself after the sunset because of that "hold up" situation that I found to be quite annoying.

Dammit - A quick trip down Trinity Lane with Metro cops tracking me in both directions, a quick left and I'm there. Now? Saturdays only. Back to El Paisa I suppose....

Mike-
I agree...although I'm sure the move is good for Peter Chins, sucks for us as it used to be easy enough to swing on down to the original location to/from J-town...oh well, I'm glad for them.

I have to say, I'm happy! It's now super close to me, and I was never able to make it there before because it was too far away. yay!

I think this is mainly good news...I don't think they would have survived at the old location. The bad news: the Vandy students will probably overun the place. Good for Peter Chinn and family...and the mysterious co-owner. I hope it goes well for them. We'll be there soon and perhaps it will become the perfect after bar run. Sunny...I'm wondering too what the new hours will be.

Went last night for dinner, and it was opening day with 2 for 1 taco special. Yes, 2 tacos and a cup of water $2.46 total, or $3 after the tip jar. The setup looks exactly like Cheeseburger Charley's same pictures on the wall, decorative Hershey's cans, same drink counter, same ketchup, same milkshakes, same tables, same seating and same hamberger topping bar. The only difference is that the Cheeseburgers menu now has Korean tacos ($2) AND burritos ($5).

Their old hours were 10:00-8:00 M-S. Don't know if they'll extend them yet in the new location. Things were still pretty much up in the air when I visited.

But all in all, it's good news for Midtown.

Lannae...that's funny. Perhaps the decor explains the lightning fast move and vice versa. Ceeelcee: Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they'll extend those hours at night for better after bar dining. I see a Corner Bar-Peter Chinn's trend developing in our future.

I went to the new location last night. They have expanded the menu to include burgers of all kinds, ranging from $4-$6 (beef, beefalo, turkey, chicken, salmon, veggie), onion rings, fries, and shakes, as well as the tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. They had the burger toppings bar set up and everything looked very fresh. Everybody there was eating a burger.

I tried the kimchi, spicy pork, and fish tacos. (Kimchi and fish tacos are $2.50, the others are $2.) The spicy pork was by far my favorite. The beef was kind of chewy and had very little of the kimchi topping. The fish was downright gross with a huge blob of tartar sauce and plain cabbage on top. I imagine the fish itself would be good without the awful sauce.

I don't know that I would bother to go back, but it was definitely an interesting meal.

Oh and they charged 25 cents for a cup for water.

Went last night at 8:10 pm. They were already mopping, and cleaning for the night. The hours are still the same 10 am - 8 pm. I was SOL. I was so bummeed. I wanted a kogi burrito.

More news about Peter Chinn's after eating 3 meals there this week, and would have had 4 had I been 15 min earlier: I got the onion rigns (it is rigns on the menu, not rings) 3 times now, and they are fresh sliced onions hand dipped in batter and fried to order. These are quite assured to be the best onion rings in town, and well worth the price of only $2. The fries are fresh cut potatoes and fried to order as well. I did not get any, but I am sure I will at some point down the road.
