Gnocchi in Whites Creek and Eating Well in East Nashville
The Farmhouse restaurant at the Fontanel is gone and the replacement is Italian cuisine via Nolensville. Café Fontanella opened up a couple of weeks ago. They remodeled the former Farmhouse restaurant to give it a more upscale dinner vibe with a full cocktail bar. Pasta and Martinis anyone? The new joint comes from a partnership with Anthony Amico, known for Amico’s New York Pizza in Nolensville. Our first visit showed the wait staff still getting used to the new menu, which includes a range of pastas and pizzas (as well as some American bar food). The potato gnocchi and white pizza Bianca we sampled last weekend were flavorful and well-executed. We’re not sure if the area can support this, but heck… we’re in. There is one bit of confusion…for whatever reason they now call the art gallery the Farmhouse…so you’ll still see the sign.

Dee’s Q put out some fine barbecue in a small roadside shack on Riverside Drive in Nashville. Foxy Baking Company made a run there as well (they’re still going strong…but at a new location on Porter Road). Now Eat Well Market has stepped up on Riverside Drive and they’ve drawn quite a few loyal fans since opening last year. Caterer Cristy Powell focuses on an ever changing menu of locally and specialty sourced ingredients. A recent trip to New Orleans brought wonderful sausage and tasty meat pies to the table. Not surprising and probably to be repeated: Cristy is from Louisiana and her family has roots in the restaurant business. Everything is cooked with care, so this is not fast food. It is also take-out or al fresco dining only, which is pleasant at one of the patio tables in the spring sun. Cristy sells some limited market items out of the small space, as well. Drop in to see what’s new.
